Wonder Monday — Delicious Cheesecake With Just 1 Net Carb…

It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten a piece of cheesecake, and I thought those days might be behind me forever.

But last month I received a free box of mini keto cheesecakes from a company called Wonder Monday.

Each of the mini cheesecakes contained just 100 calories and 1 net gram of carbs.

And the four varieties — Classic New York, Strawberry Bliss, Chocolate Decadence, and Salted Caramel — were every bit as good as my memories of the New York restaurant cheesecakes that had helped me reach 278 pounds by the fall of 2015.

Since going low carb and sustainably losing 80 pounds, I’ve generally avoided keto snacks and most foods containing sweeteners. The primary reason has been my tendency to overeat these foods, even if they are low carb or keto.

I started to wonder if I might be able to safely incorporate foods like keto cheesecakes into my daily routine, or if I’d be better to just stick with my nightly Greek yogurt and berries.

Then I did what I usually do when I have trouble reaching a decision on my own…

I asked my Twitter followers — including dozens of people who have sustainably lost 50, 75, even 100 pounds or more. They responded in force (I urge you to read the thread that resulted from my Twitter post), but the coolest thing about the response was that a multitude of diverse viewpoints were expressed.

It turns out there is no single “correct” answer when it comes to just about any aspect of how to lose weight or keep it off.

There are many people and organizations that benefit from pushing a one-size-fits-all solution, but the truth is we’ll all get the best results if we look for a solution that’s geared to work with our own individual strengths and weaknesses.

After reading each of the responses and giving it a great deal of thought, I’ve decided that occasional keto treats can work for me if I abide by a couple of basic “rules”.

  1. Keto treats are only consumed only AFTER a satiating, protein-rich dinner (never earlier in the day).
  2. I decide in advance how much I’m going to consume, portion that amount into a bowl or dish, and abide by that decision.

My Review of Wonder Monday Keto Cheesecakes:

The four varieties of Wonder Monday keto cheesecakes — Classic New York, Strawberry Bliss, Chocolate Decadence, and Salted Caramel — are every bit as good as my memories of the New York restaurant cheesecakes that had helped me reach 278 pounds by the fall of 2015.

It’s true, these cheesecakes are everything I loved about cheesecake, but without the sugar and carbs that undermined every attempt I ever made to lose weight.

My order of 28 assorted mini keto cheesecakes was delivered shortly before my two sons and their girlfriends joined my wife and I at our New York home for the holidays.

Perfect timing.

The six of us follow a variety of different diets — including low carb and plant-based, but we all seem to share a desire to eat nutritious, yet great tasting foods.

While I was most interested in the nutrition label — each cake contains just 1 gram of net carbs and less than a gram of sugar — the others seemed most curious about how well these cakes would perform in the taste test.

The cakes arrived in a well-protected, well-insulated box, and were promptly placed in the freezer, where the instructions say they will keep for up to 12 months (no chance of a cheesecake sticking around for even two weeks in our house). You can store the cheesecakes in the fridge for up to 10 days.

The instructions say that cakes can be enjoyed frozen, but recommend placing them on a plate to thaw for 10 minutes at room temperature for a “classic cheesecake consistency”.

I have to confess I was unable to wait for thawing to occur before biting into the first cake, one of the Classic New York variety. Even frozen, it was superb, but I decided to follow the directions and thaw a plate full of cakes for the rest of the family for a completely fair taste test.

The six of us sampled the full variety of cakes after dinner, and there was no dissent. These cheesecakes packed all the flavor and richness of the real deal.

“Just like the cheesecakes served in a New York restaurant,” said my son Tom, who is midway through his senior year at the University of South Carolina, and has plenty of experience eating conventional, sugar-laden cheesecakes.

The Wonder Monday cheesecakes were rich, and have the same awesome texture as the cheesecakes I grew up (and out) on. These cheesecakes even have a sweet graham crust… I have no idea how they pulled that off, but let’s just call it magic.

The Wonder Monday website informs customers that its cheesecakes are sweetened with allulose, “a naturally occurring ‘rare sugar’ found in things like figs and raisins. Unlike regular sugar, though, it has almost no calories. Because it isn’t well metabolized, it passes through the body with zero impact on blood sugar. Sweet!”

If you have adopted a low-carb or keto diet, and are lamenting the loss of cheesecake from your life, I think you’ll be impressed with Wonder Monday cheesecakes.

My only compensation from Wonder Monday is the free samples I received in order that I could review there product. I will receive no other compensation for this review.
